Wealthy ideology: Chinese elite secretly keeps personal fortunes abroad

Today, making a huge wealth has become the ideology of even the communists and socialists worldwide. That is the direct outcome of dismantling of Soviet Union, as well as communist system.

The practice of code mixing and consequent joint operation of capitalism and socialism has done away with even the remote chance of communist ideology survive anywhere, and China is the fittest example to quote now.

According to reliable reports, the Chinese political and corporate elite uses offshore companies based in the British Virgin Islands (BVI), one of the world’s major tax havens, to secretly store their personal fortunes.

The regular consignment of riches to the British Virgin Islands provides a glimpse into the extraordinary growth of social inequality in Chinese society, and the intimate nexus between the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) leadership, their relatives, and a burgeoning layer of ultra-wealthy entrepreneurs.

Seeking to generate a new crop of internationally approved capitalists, China promotes crony capitalism as a new communist policy.  These are not ordinary Chinese people but select ones from upper layer of political elite and bureaucracy.

Nearly 22,000 Chinese citizens, including some living in Hong Kong, have accounts in the BVI. Among them are the relatives of at least five current or former members of the CCP’s politburo, including a brother-in-law of Chinese president Xi Jinping, and the son of ex-premier Wen Jiabao, along with others with close family ties to the regime.

Significantly, the list also features the son-in-law of Deng Xiaoping, the principal architect of capitalist restoration in China from 1978 onward.

An estimated one to four trillion dollars in untraced assets has reportedly been moved out of China since 2000, through a complex web of companies and intermediaries. Leading European and American-based banks, such as UBS, PricewaterhouseCooper and Credit Suisse, work as middlemen for Chinese clients in these arrangements.

The global financial firms Singapore-based Portcullis TrustNat and BVI-based Commonwealth Trust Limited help the neo-communist Chinese clients create offshore companies, trusts and bank accounts, obviously on a heavy premium. .

State seems to be regulating the wealth flow from Beijing into other nations. High secrecy is maintained about the accounts and Chinese money flow. The interests of these figures are a tightly guarded secret, with no requirement for officials or their relatives to publicly disclose their finances.

State policy for crony capitalism has already generated many rich Chinese to complete with global  rich. The policies of capitalist restoration pursued by the CCP regime since the late 1970s have produced a staggering social chasm. According to figures cited in the Guardian, the 100 richest men in China are worth around $300 billion, while the poorest 300 million people live on less than $2 a day.

Needless to say communist road is gradually ending in China which is fast leading towards Capitalism.

However, the Chinese capitalism could be different form the world varieties available now.

Israel signals positively for Palestine state

Israel signals positively for Palestine state

-DR. ABDUL RUFF COLACHAL

_______________

It is for the first time since  Gaza Strip was  granted  freedom during the  Ariel Sharon era  from Zionist occupation that a positive signal  has now emanated from Israel about the possible  settlement of  world’s  longest  regional crisis in Mideast. Israeli premier has hinted that Palestine state would come into existence sooner than later.

UN vote for the Palestinian demand for much delayed Palestine state  and the follow up developments  have made the Israeli regime to finally realize  the crude fact that  Zionist must end occupation as  the establishment of Palestine state is inevitable now and therefore Israel should end crimes against  humanity inside Palestine to enable the peace  talks to  succeed.

Needless to sate that the pressure the Obama government has kept constantly on the Israeli leadership has indeed worked for the better” better for future Palestine-Israeli relations for Mideast and world as a whole.

Hawkish Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu is turning positively to the peace momentum mediated by Washington,  now insisting that Jewish settlers in the West Bank have a right to remain under Palestinian rule in any peace deal.

That is indeed encouraging for the peace supporters in Mideast and humanity at large seeking peace in Mideast and prosperity of .Palestine.

More than 500,000 Israeli settlers live among 2.4 million Palestinians in the West Bank and East Jerusalem against the international legal community’s objections.

Israel captured the West Bank, East Jerusalem, the Golan Heights and the Gaza Strip in the 1967 Middle East war. Palestinians seek to establish a state in those areas and fear that settlements, which most countries view as illegal and an obstacle to peacemaking, will deny them a viable country.

In 2005, Israel under PM Ariel Sharon, ignoring the  firm opposition by many Israeli leaders, pulled its troops and settlers out the Gaza Strip, only to strangely fall sick and losing  consciousness and  he was in a coma condition for many years before  he was declared dead last month.

Gaza is now ruled by Hamas Party of Islamists as the elected body of Palestinians, is opposed to the U.S.-brokered peace efforts as they do not in fact trust the Israeli   talks  and  doubt their terror intentions. .

The apparent trial balloon of peace momentum also drew angry words from Naftali Bennett, an extremist occupation party and a key pro-settlement partner in his governing coalition. “The idea of Jewish settlements under Palestinian sovereignty is very dangerous and reflects an irrationality of values,” Bennett said..

The Israeli report quoted an official in Netanyahu’s office as saying he did not intend to uproot Jewish settlements anywhere in the West Bank, land that Palestinians seek for a state under U.S.-brokered peace talks showing few signs of progress since they resumed in July after a three-year break.

Netanyahu would “insist that settlers be given the free choice of remaining in place and living under Palestinian rule, or relocating to areas under Israeli sovereign rule,” the official was quoted as saying.

At the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Netanyahu said he did not intend to uproot a single settler in a future Palestinian statehood agreement. The Times of Israel quoted the unidentified official as saying Netanyahu’s idea of allowing settlers the option of staying in their homes under Palestinian rule fell under that pledge.

Some Israeli political commentators suggested the leak was aimed at heading off settler opposition to a framework deal, or as guidelines for a final peace agreement that US diplomat John Kerry has been trying to formulate. Bennett, leader of the Jewish Home party and an advocate of Israeli annexation of the West Bank, demanded that Netanyahu immediately to refute this “dangerous” peace proposal. They oppose peace in Mideast.

There was no immediate Palestinian reaction to the report. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has already balked at an Israeli demand to keep an Israeli troop presence in the Jordan Valley, an area likely to be the eastern border of a Palestinian state.

One thing is clear; Jews generally do not hate Palestine people as their policy. but only some hawkish and high  selfish Israeli leaders and military-Mossad  want the Jews to hate Palestinians.  This fact can easily be ascertained by the way Arieal Sharon handled the issue, giving the Palestinians freedom in Gaza Strip. Jews did not protest but hey appreciated the Sharon’s intelligent politics.  But the trouble started in the Likud party, which he had founded, as some leaders opposed Ariel Sharon’s positive approach towards the besieged Palestinians.  Upset, Sharon quit his own Likud party to float a new party, Kadima to pursue positive diplomacy for permanent peace in the region.  Kadmia party won the parliamentary poll and he resumed power once again. But very soon he was admitted to military hospital where, after years of intense treatment for coma, he was declared dead by authorities.

Whether Sharon was poisoned by military-Mossad is a speculative question, but it is enough here to say that people of Israel, the Jews did support the Sharon policy for Palestine and overwhelmingly voted for his new party .   .

Hopefully, Palestine-Israel peace talk which  looks now somewhat serious  in character would continue and  results in  permanent peace in Mideast where Israel and Palestine coexist as  not just neighbors but  also close allies to help each other..

It is quite likely that Israel, as its former occupier, would help Palestine develop its economy and infrastructure.

After all, then, a strong Palestine would strengthen Israel, its security.

Of course, this is just the speculation but, all the same, the necessary one. If Netanyahu convert his words  into deed Palestine would come into existence soon.

Peace has been evading Mideast for a long time.  Now  the  issue if Netanyahu would  continue the Sharon policy for Palestine and help establish  a home for the Palestinians.

Indian Politics: Congress party is scared of Aam Aadmi Party’s image?

Indian Politics: Congress party is scared of Aam Aadmi Party’s image?

-DR. ABDUL RUFF COLACHAL

_______________

Delhiites, who chose the Common man’s party  to govern,  are indeed lucky.

Even after the Delhi Assembly poll last month that brought the new Aam Aadmi Party to power,  the CM Kejriwal has continued to behave like a common man representing the common people of Delhi.  This is unprecedented in Indian political history that a ruler with full power behaves like ordinary man, rejecting  all pleasures of  power.

This humane nature of Kejriwal has clearly upset the Congress and BJP parties that had expected the new party also to fall in line with other parties and loot the nation’s resources, loot the common people.

The ruling Congress party seems to have developed cold feet at the very sight of an emerging Common man party which is seen by people as the last savior of Indians from rampant corruption and misrule.

The right wing Hindutva party BJP, seeking to  recapture Delhi and India,  is no different from the Congress party.

Of course, Kejriwal is looked upon by common people as the natural opportunity provided for the security of their future.   And Kejriwal has made it a point not to disappoint the people who support him in his struggle and elevation to the office of Delhi CM.

The most unfortunate comment about AAP came from Indian president Pranab Mukherji who probably fearing the rout of Congress party to which he beings would also bring in the Common man’s party to power in months time.

However, there is not clear sign that AAP would come  to power in India as it stand now,  since there have been no  proper struggles, seen in Delhi state,  in other parts of India against the rising prices or misrule by the governments there.  The party is busy with further strengthening its hold over Delhi and has not yet begun giving a serious thought over organization of the party at national level.  Without properly organized struggle the new party cannot hope to win the national poll, it may win some seats that could only be used by a big party for their benefits in the post poll scenario. .

That won’t help the people’ cause.

Braving the Delhi winter, Delhi CM Kejriwal slept on a mattress at the side of the road, right next to his blue Wagon R.

Meanwhile, as the parliamentary poll is approaching fast, a sort of inner party trouble began consuming the precious time of the party and Delhi government in the form an MLA who, when denied a ministerial berth in the new government,  started attacking the party and government. The Aam Aadmi Party’s disciplinary committee expelled AAP MLA Vinod Kumar Binny for publicly making what it termed false statements against the Delhi government, AAP party and its leadership. Expelled AAP legislator Binny began a hunger strike began his protest at Jantar Mantar – in the heart of the national capital – after meeting with Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung.

Binny, who was angry with CM Kejriwal for not offering him a ministerial berth, now accuses AAP of not implementing the party’s pre-poll promises. Binny had defeated A.K. Walia, the health minister in the previous Sheila Dikshit government, from the Laxmi Nagar assembly constituency in east Delhi, upon   denial of  ministerial berth in the new AAP cabinet,  had attacked the government, for allegedly backtracking on the promises made in the election manifesto.  Kejriwal’s priority, according to him, is not to save the government and work for the welfare of the people, his priority is to run away from the promises he made to the people during the elections. “But I won’t let him run away from his responsibilities.”

Binny was expelled from the AAP for making false statements against the party yesterday, and has threatened a dharna against Arvind Kejriwal. Binny said that the AAP had failed to keep the promises made to the people and that they wanted the government to fall so that they are able to run away from their responsibilities.

Binny’s anti-AAP behavior indirectly helps the Congress and BJP. Facing flak over its style of governance and recent actions, Aam Aadmi Party leader and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal defended the AAP saying no other party has done as much work as their government has done in one month.  Rebutting accusations by rebel AAP MLA Vinod Kumar Binny, Kejriwal said that AAP was here to help people and not to ensure that they remain in power. “We do not have to do the politics of saving the government and let him do what he has to,” said Kejriwal.

Kejriwal further said that he was aware that Delhi was still not safe for women. “There are many challenges that we need to address to in the capital right now, and I have already said it that Delhi is not secure, especially for women,” he said. Kejriwal says the Delhi Government must be given charge of the city’s police force which currently reports to the central government via the Home Ministry. His demand comes after last week’s gang-rape of a Danish tourist, and a controversial midnight raid by Law Minister Bharti in South Delhi’s Khirki Extension area. The minister asked the police to arrest Ugandan citizens and raid a house where he alleged they were trafficking drugs and sex. The police refused, saying they had no warrant.

Both the BJP and the Congress have severely criticised Kejriwal for his unprecedented protest. The BJP called it “anarchy”, while the Congress said he was “taking the law in his own hands.” Shinde has asked Kejriwal to “maintain the dignity of the Chief Minister’s office.”

Reacting to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal led protest demanding suspension of Delhi Police personnel, who have been accused by his administration of dereliction of duty, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Vijay Goel on Tuesday said that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was behaving like Maoists. “The way AAP and Arvind Kejriwal are holding this protest, is not going to be beneficial for the public. The steps they are taking are of Maoist approach,” said Goel. He further said that he found the Congress equally responsible for the situation.

Reacting to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal led protest demanding suspension of Delhi Police personnel, who have been accused by his administration of dereliction of duty, Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee chief Sachin pilot on Tuesday said that the actions taken by Kejriwal is dangerous for the democracy. “It is for the first time that the CM, who has been given the responsibility of the state, is staging a protest. He is shifting from the primary focus that is delivering their promises, and governance. Their actions are dangerous for the democracy, and very unhealthy for the nation,” said Pilot. “They should understand that the time for marching, protesting and shouting slogans is gone. It is the time to deliver. The public has a lot of expectations from the AAP, looking at which the Congress had supported them,” he said. “The kind of actions they are taking is very unfortunate,” he added.

Four Metro stations have been shut near North Block. The police had asked Mr Kejriwal to shift his protest to Jantar Mantar, but their attempts failed.

Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, after the cabinet meeting yesterday, met the Prime Minister and apprised him of the developments and the planned action. Kejriwal has rejected Shinde’s offer that appropriate action will be considered against three Delhi Police cops the Chief Minister wants suspended after an inquiry. He has demanded the immediate suspension of the cops, who he has accused of dereliction of duty.

The AAP has also alleged that one of their ministers, Saurabh Bharadwaj, had been arrested and made to sit in a bus. The Delhi Police has denied the charge. The cops disconnected the public address system in an attempt to make the protesters shift to Jantar Mantar, an area earmarked for demonstrations.

Former IPS officer who was Delhi Commissioner of Police and co-social activist Kiran Bedi last week  accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of sending a wrong message out to the people through their two-day protest and added that it could prove costly for the AAP. Only the police officers were removed, but the minister (Somnath Bharti), against whom there are allegations, is still at his place. In the public’s eye, it is called injustice. Bedi who sided with the police when AAP demanded their removal said the morale of the police force is down, and there is a feeling among them that an injustice was done to them.

Those persons responsible for immoral activities try to target the minister for law Somnath Bharti obviously for conducting the raid to apprehend the culprits. In a statement recorded in front of a magistrate, the Ugandan national, who alleged that a group of people forcibly entered her house in south Delhi and molested her, identified Delhi Law Minister Somnath Bharti as the man who led the raid at her house last week.

The Delhi Police had registered an FIR against unknown people following a court order, after the Ugandan nationals filed a complaint. Bharti and his supporters have been accused of illegally detaining Ugandan women and forcing them to give medical tests. Bharati alleged that a sex trade and drug peddling racket was flourishing in the locality with the help of foreign nationals. He had demanded that the Delhi police take action against the offenders.

Notes: Nation and plan

It looks Congress  is working to somehow keep  the  problem party AAP under control. BJP and many other parties might join hand with them. They have a common plan and unified agenda:  looting the resources of India and share them with family members.

People of Delhi and India would stand by the new leader, the Delhi CM, Arvind Kejriwal in his struggle for the sake of common people, making the nation  corruption free. .

Congress and BJP, other parties as well, should now know that they can’t fool the people all the time.

Can they?

Defending Edward Snowden: Snowden fears foul trial in USA

Defending Edward Snowden: Snowden fears foul trial in USA

(Story of US spying networks)

-DR. ABDUL RUFF COLACHAL

_______________

Liquidation of foes has been a major US-CIA policy pursued for decades now especially after the World War two.  While no American officials could be punished for their crimes, their foes do not get a fair chance for explanation- they are just eliminated.

Former National Security Agency (NSA) contractor Edward Snowden is facing similar situation when US officials have threatened kill him for revealing the US state secrets about crimes against people.

Fair trials and trust worthy judgments can build up healthy systems.

However, generally, both fair trial and genuine justice are denied to people, resulting in systemic paralysis, leading to distrust in the judiciary and system. .

America, claiming to be the largest democracy on earth is threatening with murder of Edward Snowden for his bold action.

Snowden has leaked intelligence to Russians, thereby committing treason against USA, according to the US officials  who now want to just get him killed.

But by doing so, Edward Snowden has done a yeomen service to the humanity as the world today has become fully aware of all hidden agendas of USA even before they perpetrated the Sept-11 crime in order to obtain legitimacy to invade Muslim nations one by one. Snowden has exposed only US crimes on average Americans and people all over the world but could do more shocking revelations in future.

For this very reason, American officials just want to remove him from the world.

The NSA’s mass surveillance program has caused widespread anger after they were leaked by Snowden. The Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board advised by a 3-2 majority that the program should end.

Edward Snowden, formerly linked to CIA, left the US in late May after leaking to the media details of extensive internet and phone surveillance by American intelligence. Snowden, who has been granted temporary asylum in Russia, faces espionage charges over his actions.

Two of the charges laid against him by the Obama administration are felony counts under the Espionage Act, which carry the death penalty. And the record of American imperialism in assassinating figures it deems politically undesirable is well established—from the days when the CIA earned the title Murder Inc. to Obama’s drone strikes.

Edward Snowden has said he has “no chance” of a fair trial in the USA and so he has no plans to return there. The 30-year-old has temporary asylum in Russia after leaking details of US electronic surveillance programs.  He said that his predicament over not having a fair trial was “especially frustrating”.

In December Snowden delivered an “alternative” Christmas message to Britain’s Channel 4 TV, in which he called for an end to mass surveillance. Earlier  an independent US privacy watchdog ruled that the bulk collection of phone call data by US intelligence agencies is illegal and has had only “minimal” benefits in preventing terrorism. Snowden reiterated that the 100-year-old law under which he has been charged “forbids a public interest defense. There’s no way I can come home and make my case to a jury,” he said.

Snowden said:”Returning to the US, I think, is the best resolution for the government, the public, and myself, but it’s unfortunately not possible in the face of current whistleblower protection laws, which, through a failure in law, did not cover national security contractors like me,” he told the “Free Snowden” website. “Maybe when Congress comes together to end the programs… They’ll reform the Whistleblower Protection Act, and we’ll see a mechanism for all Americans, no matter who they work for, to get a fair trial.”

US Attorney General Eric Holder insists that Snowden must accept responsibility for leaking government secrets.

USA, unlike its strategic partners like India that shield their citizens in all possible ways,  does not want to defend Snowden.

The Obama regime fears that “a trial could potentially bring further disclosures and—from the government’s point of view —risks galvanizing even more popular support for Snowden.

In an interview yesterday with the German television network ARD,  Edward Snowden warned that US “government officials want to kill me. These government officials, have said they would love to put a bullet in my head or poison me when I come out of the supermarket, and then watch as I die in the shower,” Snowden said.

Snowden’s warning that the US government wants him dead to suppress his revelations of illegal NSA spying must be taken with the utmost seriousness. It raises the urgency of developing a mass movement to defend him and oppose the destruction of democratic rights.

It is quite likely that US officials would authorize criminal gangs across the globe to target him,  just by casually being poked by a passerby. He would think nothing of it at the time and starts to feel a little woozy and thinks it’s a parasite from the local water. He goes home very innocently and next thing you know he is dead in the shower.”

Washington can justify any official murders as they are entirely consistent with the political gangsterism being employed to prepare Snowden’s liquidation.

The Obama  regime,  like before him,  has already carried out extra-judicial murders not only in Pakistan and Afghanistan, but even of four US citizens with Hellfire missiles.

The desire to end the revelations of US spying on people all over the world quickly is shared by the agents of the NSA, CIA and Pentagon all the way up to the White House.

All of them have got a common stakes.

Clearly, the US government has no intention of offering Snowden a fair trial. Snowden and his attorney have made this clear.

Snowden said that any proceeding against him would be a show trial, with the 1917 Espionage Act employed to preclude his putting up a defense of his actions based on their exposure of a secretive and illegal police state apparatus. Documents supporting his defense would be deemed classified and ruled out as evidence, and he would have no opportunity to appeal to the democratic sensibilities of the jury.

The political witch-hunt that the US establishment is whipping up against Snowden demonstrates that it has no intention of offering any trial.

The deal is merely political cover for the plans of the US government to use extra-judicial means to bring a halt to the exposure of its illegal spying operations.

The proposal that Snowden return to the US and quietly accept imprisonment boils down to the ultimatum: If Snowden were to set foot on US soil, no one would ever see him again.

Snowden is now living as a stateless refugee in Russia, and the threat of state murder is very real whether or not he returns to the USA.

Snowden’s revelations are exposing those in power as the real criminals, making them all the more determined to physically shut him up and make an example of him.

White House has devised, authorized and implemented mass spying programs, a system of total control over the population, in brazen violation of both the law and the fundamental rights spelled out in the US Constitution.

The police state apparatus that has been exposed by Snowden’s revelations has been built up to defend the interests of the financial oligarchy that controls the US government. Its totalitarian operations are aimed not at foiling terrorist plots, but at furthering American capitalism’s predatory aims.

Abroad, these entail preparing wars, also spying on supposed allies and carrying out industrial espionage against rival corporations. At home, they mean spying and collecting dossiers on American working people, who are seen as an increasingly hostile and dangerous enemy.

The corporate media funded by arms lobbies among other gangs, as usual, have smeared Snowden as a traitor and spy.

Polls show mass support for Snowden. There is growing anxiety within the ruling establishment that Snowden’s courageous actions express not just his own opposition to the criminal activities of the government, but sentiments building up among the population at large, and particularly among workers, students and youth. These layers are increasingly fed up with a government of the rich, by the rich and for the rich that destroys democratic rights as it transfers the social wealth to the financial aristocracy and wages wars of aggression.

Edward Snowden must be defended by all means so that democracy is saved and secret diplomacy and polices, police state operations end.

Spy network

As the only super power of the globe,  USA now officially controls the world powers.  None can challenge or  question America.

It is obvious that USA  has the largest  spy network  today,  collecting  complete information about individuals,  groups, organizations, nations and  leaders.

Exposure of US spy networks has taken the world by surprise and shock.  privacy of individuals, especially the global leaders,  has become a major causality of the  nefarious spy operations. .

The scandal broke in early June 2013 when the Guardian newspaper reported that the US National Security Agency (NSA) was collecting the telephone records of tens of millions of Americans. The paper published the secret court order directing telecommunications company Verizon to hand over all its telephone data to the NSA on an “ongoing daily basis”.

That report was followed by revelations in both the Washington Post and Guardian that the NSA tapped directly into the servers of nine internet firms including Face book, Google, Microsoft and Yahoo to track online communication in a surveillance program known as Prism.  Britain’s electronic eavesdropping agency GCHQ was also accused of gathering information on the online companies via Prism.

Shortly afterwards, the Guardian revealed that ex-CIA systems analyst Edward Snowden was behind the leaks about the US and UK surveillance programs. He has been charged in the US with theft of government property, unauthorized communication of national defence information and willful communication of classified communications intelligence.UK spy agency ‘taps fibre-optic cables’

The GCHQ scandal widened on 21 June when the Guardian reported that the UK spy agency was tapping fibre-optic cables that carry global communications and sharing vast amounts of data with the NSA, its US counterpart. GCHQ was able to boast a larger collection of data than the US, tapping in to 200 fibre-optic cables to give it the ability to monitor up to 600 million communications every day, according to the report.

The information from internet and phone use was allegedly stored for up to 30 days to be sifted and analysed.

GCHQ and NSA eavesdropping on Italian phone calls and internet traffic was reported by the Italian weekly L’Espresso on 24 October. The revelations were sourced to Edward Snowden. It is alleged that three undersea cables with terminals in Italy were targeted. Italian Prime Minister Enrico Letta called the allegations “inconceivable and unacceptable” and said he wanted to establish the truth. USA ‘hacks China networks’

After fleeing to Hong Kong, Edward Snowden told the South China Morning Post that the NSA had led more than 61,000 hacking operations worldwide, including many in Hong Kong and mainland China.

Claims emerged on 29 June that the NSA had also spied on European Union offices in the US and Europe. The US had spied on EU internal computer networks in Washington and at the 27-member bloc’s UN office in New York. One document dated September 2010 explicitly named the EU representation at the UN as a “location target”.

The NSA had also conducted an electronic eavesdropping operation in a building in Brussels, where the EU Council of Ministers and the European Council were located.

The German government summoned the US ambassador on 24 October – a very unusual step – after German media reported that the NSA had eavesdropped on Chancellor Angela Merkel’s mobile phone.

The allegations dominated an EU summit, with Mrs Merkel demanding a full explanation and warning that trust between allies could be undermined. She discussed the matter by phone with US President Barack Obama. He assured her that her calls were not being monitored now and that it would not happen in future. But the White House did not deny bugging her phone in the past.

Past surveillance by secret police – whether Nazi or communist – has made Germans very sensitive about privacy issues. Mrs Merkel grew up in the former East Germany, where the Stasi spied on millions of citizens.

France’s President Francois Hollande meanwhile expressed alarm at reports that millions of French calls had been monitored by the USA. The Guardian later reported that the NSA had monitored the phones of 35 world leaders after being given their numbers by another US government official. Again, Edward Snowden was the source of the report. A total of 38 embassies and missions have been the “targets” of US spying operations, according to a secret file leaked to the Guardian. Countries targeted included France, Italy and Greece, as well as America’s non-European allies such as Japan, South Korea and India, the paper reported on 1 July. EU embassies and missions in New York and Washington were also said to be under surveillance.

The file allegedly detailed “an extraordinary range” of spying methods used to intercept messages, including bugs, specialized antennae and wire taps.

US Secretary of State John Kerry said that activities to protect national security were “not unusual” in international relations. Latin America ‘monitored’

US allies in Latin America were angered by revelations in Brazil’s O Globo newspaper on 10 July that the NSA ran a continent-wide surveillance program.

US agents apparently joined forces with Brazilian telecoms firms to snoop on oil and energy firms, foreign visitors to Brazil, and major players in Mexico’s drug wars. Mexico, Brazil, Colombia and Chile all demanded answers from the US.

But in September more specific claims emerged that emails and phone calls of the presidents of Mexico and Brazil had been intercepted. Also, the US had been spying on Brazil’s state-owned oil firm Petrobras.

Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff cancelled a state visit to the US in the most high-profile diplomatic move since the scandal hit.US spying ‘errors’

Documents leaked to the Washington Post in mid-August suggested the NSA breaks US privacy laws hundreds of times every year.

The papers revealed that US citizens were inadvertently snooped on for reasons including typing mistakes and errors in the system,

Later in August, the Washington Post reported that US spy agencies had a “black budget” for secret operations of almost $53bn in 2013. SMS messages ‘collected and stored’

In January 2014, the Guardian newspaper and Channel Four News reported that the US had collected and stored almost 200 million text messages per day across the globe.

A National Security Agency (NSA) program is said to have extracted and stored data from the SMS messages to gather location information, contacts and financial data.

The documents also revealed that GCHQ had used the NSA database to search for information on people in the UK.

The program, Dishfire, analyses SMS messages to extract information including contacts from missed call alerts, location from roaming and travel alerts, financial information from bank alerts and payments and names from electronic business cards. Through the vast database, which was in use at least as late as 2012, the NSA gained information on those who were not specifically targeted or under suspicion, the report says.

The revelations came on the eve of an expected announcement by President Obama of a response to recommendations by a US panel on ways to change US electronic surveillance programs.

Dynastic politics of India: Case of Tamil politicians

Dynastic politics of India: Case of Tamil politicians

-DR. ABDUL RUFF COLACHAL

_______________

Castes, religions, money and muscle play  vital roles in Indian politics.  Besides, anti-Islamism, Hindutva and Pakistan etc also have their place in Indian  poll politics as these issues  keep coming up in electioneering and  key campaign speeches. .

Dynastic and family politics as part of  democracy  have badly shaped Indian polity..

Sons and dear daughters are the major concern of politicians of India  wherever they maybe and these are considered by politicians as their heir to rule after them the areas, constituencies, the states and nation

These major kith and kin are more important for politicians who are supposed serve the nation than the rest of people around.  Hence many political leaders have taken it as their prerogative to push through their  kith and kin in into politics in a big way by asking the party workers to promote their darlings.

And the workers and small scale leader promote and pamper the offspring of their leaders as their top priority in politics.  Some of them argue that the presence of the offspring  helps  promote  the party.

Party  makes all out effort to  promote the close relatives of leaders as its key policy, if the politicians do not have children.

There is no state in India where dynastic politics does not rule the roost. While  the trend has reached awfully worst situation, in some  other states the  problem is still not posing any alarming threat.

Not only the North Indian states, but in South as well the trend is prevalent and none seems to question these hollow democratic traditions enshrined in practical Indian politics known for its communal overtones.

If one thinks  only the regional politicians promote the dynastic politics, but even  at the national level too  the leaders are eager to see their kith and kin are well settled in politics before they either retire or die.

From Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh to Kerala and Tamil Nadu families run politics.

DMK and ADMK, the  two major parties that alternatively rule the Tamil State, are dominated by family politics. In DMk, the party chief M. Karunanidhi  has already created  heirs-apparent to take over power in Tamilnadu and share power at the centre.

In fact, not just sons and daughters are now leaders of the party both in the Parliament and state assembly, but even other close relatives have been pushed up the ladder to be the central government cabinet ministers.

Karunanidhi  gradually introduced  his  elder son, daughter and other relatives to share political profits.

Apart from his two sons and daughter,  his nephews Dayanidhi Maran,  2G scam fame Raja are other relatives Karunanidhi brought to politics with seats in Assembly and Parliament. Both nephews were in central cabinet  but removed subsequently.  Reports suggest Karunanidhi has sent his Raja to  Singapore upon he was sacked  by Sonia Gandhi-Manmohan under public pressure.

it is awful that  DMK and ADMK leaders deal in roaring business, including estate and  sand, etc. CM Jayalalitha is still facing court cases  relating to her disproportionate wealth. It looks as if a good part of Tamil Nadu belongs to these party men.

That is the  wealth they have acquired in politics and that is  essence of Indian politics.

Karunanidhi and DMK party have  faced a difficult situation  in controlling the elder son Alagiri because Karunanidhi promotes only his younger son and does not quite actively canvas for Alagiri.

As family  quarrel  took ugly turn, the DMK chief and former chief minister and CM in perpetual waiting, M Karunanidhi has suspended wef 24th January his elder son MK Alagiri MP, from all party posts.

Alagiri is temporarily suspended from the party. In a statement issued here, party general secretary K Anbazhagan said Alagiri was creating confusion in the party by urging party cadres not to work and criticizing the disciplinary action taken by the party against some members for their anti-party activities. He said the continuation of Alagiri in the party is not proper and would destroy the party discipline. Anbazhagan said the members should accept this decision taken in the interests of the party and should stand united for the functioning of the party.

The DMK chief’s decision to suspend Alagiri was reportedly taken in consultation with his younger son and heir apparent MK Stalin, strengthening the belief that Alagiri is paying the price not for “anti-party activities” but for a series of confrontations with his younger brother that escalated after the ailing, aging Karunanidhi officially proclaimed Stalin as his heir.

Karunanidhi has a few wives and many children. Alagiri is his eldest son form one wife and Stalin is his younger son form another wife and between these two there is big  gap in the party. Karunanidhi has promoted Stalin very early in politics to make him the mayor of Madras corporation and MLA and minister in his cabinet. Alagiri was inducted a bit late, perhaps to make Stalin more popular.

Earlier in January, Karunanidhi had warned Alagiri and others that the party take action against those who voiced views contrary to the official line. Alagiri, the then south zone organizing secretary of DMK, had opposed an alliance with DMDK in the coming Lok Sabha polls.

Alagiri’s opposition came after Karunanidhi had earlier said he would be happy if there was an alliance between the two parties. Karunanidhi termed Alagiri’s views regrettable and condemnable, saying they were contrary to the views expressed by him as party president.

The feud between Alagiri and Stalin is of long duration, and manifested violently back in February 1997 when the Tamil daily Dinakaran published a poll showing that Stalin was universally preferred to his elder brother. Incensed at the poll and accompanying article critical of Alagiri, his supporters attacked the Madurai office of the paper and set it on fire, killing three. Ironically, Dinakaran is part of the Sun TV media group owned by Karunanidhi’s grand-nephew Kalanidhi Maran; this fact led Alagiri to accuse his father and younger brother of using a captive mouthpiece to malign him.

Alagiri, the second son of Karunanidhi, did not have an official role in politics till late 2007, when he shifted base to Madurai and organized by-poll victories in 2008. During this phase he earned a reputation for harnessing muscle power to harass opponents and extend the DMK’s grip over the region. For his efforts, he was rewarded with a Lok Sabha ticket from Madurai during the 2009 general elections. When he won, as he was expected to, the DMK used its influence as a UPA ally to get him a berth as Cabinet Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers.

In New Delhi, Alagiri soon won a reputation for sloth, rarely if ever attending office, never participating in debates, and refusing to answer questions raised against his ministry. His tenure ended in March 2013 when his junior minister Srikanth Jena cited various irregularities in the ministry’s functioning, which in turn sparked allegations of corruption to the tune of hundreds of crores. Alagiri was removed from his post and Jena was rewarded with independent charge of the ministry.

Alagiri returned to his Madurai base, and made attempts to get back into the state political scene but was consistently sidelined by Karunanidhi and Stalin. This in turn led Alagiri to make a series of vitriolic statements against his father and younger brother, under the guise of criticizing the party functioning. The DMK leadership – that is to say, Karunanidhi and Stalin – issued several warnings against the rebellious elder son; it all boiled to a head when, heedless of the latest warning to not criticize party decisions, Alagiri went ahead and spoke out against the DMK’s projected alliance with the MDMK for the upcoming general elections.

Alagiri, never known to take things lying down, might react harshly to the official action. He has a muscular hold over Madurai and neighboring regions, and could conceivably mount a successful rebellion in that region against his father’s party.

DMK politics is based on muscle-money power..

Sons of Karunanidhi  want to share the state  between them.

However, that is not the real story and problem of Tamil Nadu

Shame Tamil politics

It is really a huge democratic shame that  Tamil Nadu politics reels under the family feuds of Karunanidhi as if Tamil Nadu’s  as well as India’s  fate depends entirely on the resolution of infighting inside the Karunanidhi home.

Incumbent  chief minister Jayalalitha is not quite ready to let the Karunandihti family  return to power in Tamil Nadu, making  more profits from all businesses they have.

In fact,  caste politics  brought Karunanidhi and DMK,  comprising more low caste  people,  to power in 1965 by defeating  an aimless Congress government.  But the party has legitimized corruption as the  major input of democracy in the state.

Targeting Iran and Syria: Arab rulers should come out of fool’s paradise!

One is not  very sure if  the Arab rulers are  bad fools or  they pretending to be ones.

It has been the key US policy to silence any nation that opposes US capitalist and imperialist interests in nay part of the world as American politicians and military think entire world is theirs. This claim is very similar to that of the Zionist fascists as well.

So, any government that is viewed as a hindrance to the pursuit of the geopolitical interests of the American ruling class is targeted for destabilization or overthrow, through covert or overt means.

The Obama regime still targets regime change in Syria and insists that the purpose of the so-called Geneva II discussions was to remove President Bashar al-Assad and install a pro-US puppet government. Washington, thus, sees only one option, negotiating a transition government born by mutual consent.

The Obama regime brazenly cloaks its campaign in Syria in the rhetoric of democracy and human rights.

The prolongation of crisis in Syria testifies to the Obama administration’s willingness to recklessly promote extreme right-wing forces to advance the predatory economic and geostrategic interests of the American capitalists that, like Arab league of nations do,  finance the NATO militarism and imperialism.

The CIA’s sarin gas lies  lie down as dead  imperialist drive,  and these lies were spread to obtain legitimacy for a  more forceful terror attack on Syrians by the NATO forces directly, more fresh bogus allegations against Syria are being raised that are no more credible than the sarin filth.

The gas attack came shortly after Kerry met with Syrian opposition figures, who had been experiencing months of military setbacks and were desperate for more direct military assistance from the USA.

The US experts Lloyd and Postol who conducted investigative research on the sarin issue, concluded that the chemical weapons had to have come from within 2 kilometres of the target, and that every possible launching point was in rebel-held territory. Syrian government and military forces could not have been responsible. Also, a UN chemical weapons inspectors’ report last month detailed numerous sarin gas attacks carried out by opposition militia forces, including several confirmed attacks within days of the Ghouta killings.

Washington has spent nearly three years on Syria seeking to use violence to carry out regime change. The conflict has produced more than 100,000 casualties and displaced millions. It threatens to develop into a region-wide civil war. The US and its allies in Europe, Saudi Arabia and Qatar have financed an insurgency targeting the regime of Assad, killing thousands of Muslims, mostly Sunni.

The US campaign in Syria follows the illegal US wars against Afghanistan and Iraq, which have devastated the two countries and led to the deaths of hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of people. It comes on the heels of the US-led war to overthrow Qaddafi in Libya.

Having antagonized Arab world by  its refusal to attack both Iran and Syria, Washington now seems to be trying to  signal to Sunni Saudi led Arab League a new aggressive  stand  on Shiite Assad ruling  Sunni majority Syria.

But it is only a CIA gimmick and Americans cannot help the Arab world in any way.  They just unilaterally advance the imperialist goals in Mideast and South Asia by tactfully s using the regional powers.

A regime change in Damascus is not meant to help the Sunni world and such an operation will not be in the interests of Arab world.

Arab leaders should come out of the fool’s paradise!

US poverty and inequality: Obama meets Pope

US poverty and inequality: Obama meets Pope

-DR. ABDUL RUFF COLACHAL

_______________

Capitalism, which uses ordinary work force as raw material, squeezing   and exploiting it for extra profits,  is incompatible with equality and it only promotes  poverty, escalates social tensions.

Talk of equality and  poverty elimination under the  conditions of capitalism, therefore, is absolutely ridiculous. America which developed on capitalist ideals and also officially declared capitalism as  their  key ideology  occasionally tries to  talk about  giving people equality status and poverty reduction without in fact undertaking any  worthwhile steps.

Even as the Pentagon-CIA keeps planning for future wars alongside continuing the ongoing terror wars in Mideast plus South Asia for resource cum routes’ hunt, the US President Barack Obama has called for action to remedy what he described as profound income inequality and a lack of social mobility in the US. He called for a rise in the minimum wage and for stronger collective bargaining laws, among other measures. He also said his embattled healthcare overhaul would ease one part of American families’ financial struggle.

The White House announced US President Barack Obama will visit Pope Francis on a European tour in March, looking forward to discussing their “shared commitment” to fighting poverty and growing inequality. The US president quoted Pope Francis in a speech about income inequality on December. The March visit will be the first meeting between the two men.

The US president said the country had accepted higher levels of economic inequality than other developed nations because Americans are convinced that America is a place where even if you’re born with nothing, with a little hard work you can improve your own situation over time.

Gap

The income gap between the richest 1% of Americans and the other 99% widened to a record margin in 2012, according to an analysis of tax filings.  Income inequality in the US has been growing for almost three decades. The top 1% of US earners collected 19.3% of household income, breaking a record previously set in 1927. Overall, the pre-tax incomes of the top 1% of households rose 19.6% compared to a 1% increase for the rest of Americans. And the top 10% of richest households represented just under half of all income in the year, according to the analysis.

Income includes wages, private pension payments, dividends and capital gains from the sale of stocks and other assets, but it does not include unemployment benefits or federal public pension benefits, known as Social Security. While the crash of 2007-09 adversely affected top earners, benefits of rising corporate profits and stock prices since then have largely gone to the richest, according to the study.

Incomes among the richest fell more than 36% between 2007-09, compared with a decrease of 11.6% for the rest of Americans. But in the last three years, 95% of all income gains have gone to the richest 1%. The top 1% of American households had income above $394,000 (£250,000) last year. The top 10% had income exceeding $114,000.

While acknowledging the political difficulty of passing any such government action with a divided and acrimonious Congress, Obama’s speech in Washington DC gave a broad overview of economic themes for the rest of his term. Obama, a Democrat, said rising income inequality had been accompanied in recent decades by diminishing opportunities for social mobility.

Obama faulted tax cuts for wealthy Americans, declining investment in schools and infrastructure, and laws that have weakened labour unions, compounded by broad structural changes in the global economy. “The combined trends of increased inequality and decreasing mobility pose a fundamental threat to the American Dream, our way of life, and what we stand for around the globe,” he said.

Obama said Americans can’t tackle inequality if the economic pie is shrinking or stagnant. “The idea that so many children are born into poverty in the wealthiest nation on Earth is heartbreaking enough. The idea that a child may never be able to escape that poverty because she lacks a decent education or healthcare, or a community that views her future as their own, that should offend all of us and it should compel us to action.”

Remedy

To remedy the growing income inequality, Obama called for a rise in the national minimum wage, currently $7.25 (£4.43) – as low as it was during the administration of President Harry Truman in the 1950s in terms of spending power. Several states and cities have raised their own minimum wages, most recently New Jersey and Washington DC.

A proposal is currently being floated in the Senate to increase the national minimum wage to $10.10 in three steps and tie further increases to changes in the cost of living, but its path even through the Democratic-controlled Senate is unclear. Obama suggested targeted programs for cities and regions hardest hit by the 2008 recession and other sea changes in the US economy, universal preschool education for young children, a shoring-up of the US pension and social safety net schemes, and laws to make it easier for workers to organize into labour unions. Obama also pressed Congress to extend unemployment benefits to 1.3 million people who have been unemployed long-term, set to expire toward the end of December. Additional weeks of benefits have been approved since 2009, but recently, a senior Republican congressman, Representative Tom Cole, said his party opposed an extension.

Obama said US government policy must remain relentlessly focused on strengthening the economy. “It may be true that in today’s economy, growth alone does not guarantee higher wages and incomes,” he said, but USA can’t tackle inequality if the economic pie is shrinking or stagnant.”The US president argued rising inequality was eroding trust in institutions and reducing civic and community involvement. And he said the “growing gap” was as much about class as it was about race.

While in Rome, Obama will also meet Italian President Giorgio Napolitano and Prime Minister Enrico Letta. He will visit the Netherlands for a nuclear security summit, and will meet Nato and Belgian officials in Belgium. His visit to Belgium will include his first official trip to two EU institutions – the European Council and the European Commission. Among those Obama is scheduled to meet is Nato Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen.

Missing will?

The inequality rise may have been in part because of sales of stock to avoid higher capital gains taxes in January. Despite recent policy changes aiming at lessening income inequality, the measures were relatively small in comparison to policy changes that took place coming out of the Great Depression. Therefore, it seems unlikely that US income concentration will fall much in the coming years.

Poverty and inequality have stayed because of pro-capitalist ideology the White House has pursued for too long, also as the result of unwillingness to crate the right environment for change by the policy makers and plan executers.

Policy and practice determine the outcome of any state project and measures to combat poverty and inequality should be sincere enough!. One has  to wait and see how the dialogue between Obama and the Pope would herd an revolutionary change in capitalist world, led by unilateral USA.

It seems the American dream of global capitalism by all means, including terror wars, is slowly changing possibly for the better. It is unfortunate that US president is unable to get top politicians, seeking self-centered huge capitalist profits,   onboard to help reduce US poverty and inequality.

Obama’s major worry now is his approval ratings have plummeted in recent weeks amid that law’s botched rollout. He feels unless his regime does something tangible it may not be easy for the Democrats to win the next Presidency.

The issue here is whether USA can become a normal nation without hidden war agendas so as to focus  on domestic  policy very seriously to  commit to  people’s genuine problems. .

Mad talk: Indian Home Minister should resign!

Mad talk: Indian Home Minister should resign!

-DR. ABDUL RUFF COLACHAL

_______________

Unable to somehow control the new Aam Aadmi government led by Arvind Kejriwal who is intensifying the struggle to make Delhi free of crimes and corruption rackets, Indian Union home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde stoked another controversy by calling Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal mad.

Addressing a meeting, Shinde called Kejriwal a ‘mad chief minister’ and said that due to a yeda (mad) CM on dharna, I had to cancel the leaves of policemen. Shinde is trying to shield the police persons who refuse to take action against the culprits.

Criticizing Shinde’s comment, Aam Aadmi Party leader Anjali Damania asked: ‘Is this language used by Sushil Kumar Shinde acceptable to those who were pointing fingers at us? Will Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde now apologize for his statement against Arvind Kejriwal?

Kejriwal is an unusual leader with commitment to a genuine cause. He  is fight for  people and using common man’s language.

Meanwhile, a case has been registered following a scuffle between Aam Aadmi Party supporters and police during the protest led by Arvind Kejriwal near Rail Bhavan.

A police official said: “We have registered a case under various sections, including rioting, on the basis of two complaints”.  The case was registered against “unidentified people” at the Parliament Street police station. The complaint said Kejriwal provoked his supporters to join the protest.

According to a complaint by a police officer, the chief minister and his supporters violated ban on any gathering of five or more people, under Section 144 (joining unlawful assembly) of the Indian Penal Code, which was imposed in the area ahead of the Republic Day Parade.
During the two days of Kejriwal’s sit-in, clashes took place between AAP supporters and police personnel when over a hundred supporters broke the barricades and entered the site. At least 11 supporters were also injured.

Obviously, Shinde as a responsible home minister should have controlled his words.  By calling a chief minister in public he has badly lowered the status of home ministry and Indian government.

Since no apology is forthcoming form Shinde it is only reasonable to ask him to step down to enable new homely person with commitment to security of Delhi and ability to use a disciplined language to take the charge of the ministry.

Will Shinde step down, or will the Sonia-Manmohan Singh ask Shinde to step aside?
